- the East Cumbria Countryside Project web site has details and maps of several nearby walks including 2 circular walks (each 3.5 miles long). One of these passes through the hotel grounds. These 2 walks can be combined to make a longer circular walk
- the local beauty spot of Talkin Tarn is a very pretty setting for walks (8 miles)

- Kielder Water and Forest Park is the largest forest in England and includes the largest man-made lake in Europe and several visitor centres (about 35 miles). A wide range of activities is available including:
